Fundraiser for Richmond policeman Adrian Mello to be held this weekend
This fundraiser will be held at Sears Hometown Store, 821 Hwy. 90A East Saturday May 26, 9 A.M until 6 P.M. Refreshments and door prizes provided by Sears.
Adrian Mello started working for the Richmond Police Department in January 2002. He came to Richmond after working for the Brownsville Police Department,
the U.S. Border Patrol, and the Mathis Police Department.
Adrian has been married for 12 years and has two children ages six and eight. Adrian was promoted to Corporal in 2004 and Detective in 2011.
In September 2005, Adrian was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiform, a form of brain cancer. When it was discovered it was already in stage 4. Adrian has had several surgeries to remove the tumors and he has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation to help him fight the tumors in his brain.
During all of these Adrian only missed work when he was recovering from his surgeries.
At this point Adrian’s doctors have done all that can be done for him. He is now at home and can no longer work as he is on Hospice care.
Adrian has also used all of his sick and vacation time and no longer has any income to support his family. His wife has also had to take off of work to help care for him.
