On May 16, The Woman’s Club of Missouri City met for the last meeting of the 2011-2012 year at the Fellowship Hall of The First Methodist Church of Missouri City. WCMC, whose theme for 2011-2012 was WCMC is Blooming, ended the year on a high note with President Jo Butterfield and WCMC awarding four scholarships and presenting several donations to the Dew House, the Elkins High School Habitat for Humanity program, and FBISD Shared Dreams.

Nancy Thurmond, Scholarship Chair, presented four $1,000 Legacy scholarships to Missouri City high school seniors at Elkins, Marshall and Hightower. Scholarship recipients included Troy Cinek and Bon Ikwuagwu Jr. of Elkins, Empress James of Marshall and Claudia Singleton of Hightower. The WCMC Legacy Scholarship celebrated its 10th anniversary and has awarded $44,000 to Missouri City High school graduates. Assisting Thurmond, with presenting the Legacy scholarships, were Pat Weber, Mary Burger and Betty Conroy.

Jane Owen recognized the Elkins Habitat for Humanity program and presented both sponsor Frank Pye and Elkins High School Habitat for Humanity member Adam Pye with a $500 donation. President Butterfield recognized Diane Ware, Special Project Manager and Historian of the Fort Bend Museum Association, who accepted a donation, on behalf of the Dew House. Due to a conflict in scheduling, FBISD Shared Dreams representatives were unable to attend to accept their WCMC donation.

WCMC is looking forward to 2012-2013 in which the theme will be Catch the Spirit and Join the Club. WCMC leadership will include following officers: President Jo Butterfield, Vice President Jane Thompson, Recording Secretary Jane Owen, Corresponding Secretary Milly Smith, Treasurer Nancy Thurmond, Parliamentarian Ann Smith and Historian Jean Shelledy.
