Willowridge HS Students attend 4th Annual Transition Job Fair
Willowridge High School Vocational Adjustment Class students recently took part in the 4th Annual Transition Job Fair, held at Bethel’s Empowerment Center in Houston.
The event gave students the opportunity to hone their interviewing skills and seek out potential employers who could offer them summer employment that could lead to part-time employment through the Vocational program in the fall, as well as full-time employment with on-the-job training for WHS seniors. To prepare for the job fair, the students were required to prepare copies of their resume, review interviewing tips and plan to dress professionally.
Representatives from approximately 40 major companies throughout the greater Houston area attended the job fair and were committed to hiring students. Of the 19 WHS students that participated, 15 secured jobs. The remaining students are in the process of completing applications for possible employment.
“I cannot express how much our students benefited from this successful event,” said Shirley Foster, WHS Vocational Adjustment Coordinator and Transition Job Fair Committee member. “Not only did students gain a feeling of self-worth, they are also receiving transition services that will benefit them as they pursue their postsecondary goals.”
