Travis Gore earns rank of Eagle Scout
Boy Scout Troop 1424, chartered to New Hope Lutheran Church, Missouri City, is pleased to announce that Travis Cotton Gore was officially awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America at an Eagle Court of Honor held on May 20, 2012 at New Hope Lutheran.
He joined Cub Scout Pack 1030 at age six. Pack 1030 was merged into Pack 282 at Palmer Elementary where Travis moved up to and completed Webelos, earning his Arrow of Light in 2006. He joined Troop 1424 in 2007 and served in a number of leadership positions culminating in his recent election as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He will serve as Senior Patrol Leader beginning this Fall.
Travis has been an active member of Troop 1424 participating in numerous summer and winter camps, patrol campouts, and service projects. He has attended all three BSA High Adventure camps (Philmont in NM, Seabase in FL, and Northern Tier in MN) earning the Charles L. Sommers Triple Crown Award. He will be returning to Philmont this summer.
Travis’ Eagle Project was the upgrading of pathways leading through the New Hope Lutheran Prayer Garden to their outdoor chapel to make it safer and more accessible to church members and the community, as well as mulching of the Prayer Garden. Upgrading of the pathways involved the removal of soil, installation of pathway edging and placement and compaction of granite gravel. Travis’ crew completed this project in August 2011.
Travis is completing his sophomore year in the Math and Science Academy at Dulles High School where he is also a member of the school soccer team. He plans to study and pursue a career in Petroleum Engineering.
Travis is the son of Dean and Joanne Gore of Missouri City and the brother of Whitney Gore of Tyler, Texas.
