Silver sparkles shined bright on May 11th as the Literacy Council celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the 22nd Annual Wine & Music event. The final Wine & Music celebration was attended by past, present and future literacy supporters.

The evening began with pianist Joey Boesch welcoming guests with his signature style. As guests entered the Silent Auction, they browsed through the 112 silent auction items available for bidding. Also in the Silent Auction area, guests perused through stacks of best-selling novels hoping to pick the lucky stack and win a Kindle Fire or purchase a hand-decorated wine bottle uniquely designed for each buyer.

When the ballroom opened for all to enter, the guests were pleasantly surprised with the selection of food and wine. Ten restaurants shared a sampling of their food for guests to enjoy.

Prior to the live auction, Third Floor Strings ensemble entertained the audience with a soft mix of music. The six new Literacy Stars were honored by Event Emcee and Board Chair, Trey Reichert and Executive Director, Brenda Bowman. Jane Lawrence, Sam Needham, Steve Onstad, Commissioner James Patterson, Lizz Sansone and Robert Wolter were all inducted as Literacy Stars for 2012 for their significant contribution to the Literacy Council through their time, talents, service and dedication to the organization.

Next, Lucia Street, past Executive Director and Honorary Chair with her husband, Larry, quickly gave a brief overview on the history of the Literacy Council over the past 25 years.

As the live auction began, Jennifer Esch was announced as the 100 for $100 winner. She chose the trip to Washington DC as her prize package. To round out the live auction, the audience was presented with a challenge – help the Literacy Council update their “Kitchen Cabinets.” The generous audience donated $10,500 to renovate the kitchen space at the Literacy Council with new cabinets, countertops and fixtures.

The event’s success would not have been possible without the support and generosity of special sponsors for the evening.
