Kempner High School’s Health Science Technology Class awarded White House Silver Eagle Award

Pictured are members of the 2011-2012 Kempner High School Health Science Technology Class.

The Kempner High School Health Science Technology Class was again awarded the White House Silver Eagle Award for hosting a successful blood drive. The Silver Eagle Award is the highest level of civic service honor that can be earned by young adults in our country.

The class received the award last year for harvesting more than 650 units of blood. This year, the Kempner students set another record by harvesting 755 units of blood for the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and young leukemia patients who are awaiting marrow transplants.

In recognition of their success, Sugar Land Mayor James A. Thompson and the City Council honored the students and their instructor, Dr. Jeffrey Ricken, with proclamations at a recent city council meeting.

All Health Science Technology Class students are entering colleges and universities next year with plans of becoming future healthcare professionals.
