Citizens Police Academy now accepting applications

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications to attend the Citizens Police Academy this fall. The program consists of eleven 2 ½-hour courses held consecutively on Thursdays from 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m., beginning Aug. 23.

Everything needed for the course is supplied free of charge and will take place at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy, 1521 Eugene Heimann Circle, Richmond, directly across the street from the main complex of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy is intended for members of the community seeking to become more informed on law enforcement issues as well as those contemplating a career in the field.

The focus of the program is to provide an overview through course work and practical hands-on experience of the criminal justice system and the operations and various functions of the sheriff’s department.

Participants will have an opportunity to tour the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in its entirety as well as learn the workings of each of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Divisions including patrol, criminal investigations, detention, 911 Emergency Communications Center, law enforcement training and narcotics and dangerous drug enforcement. Graduates will be able to participate in a ride-along session with a patrol deputy.

To apply applicants must be 18 years of age and must not have a criminal arrest record. Those interested in enrolling in the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy may download an application available on the Sheriff’s Office link at the Fort Bend County website, www.co.fort-bend.tx.us.com
