The two year old boy discovered floating face down in the family bathtub has succumbed to his injuries.
About dinner time, last Friday evening, Richmond emergency responders answered a possible drowning call at a home in the 1600 block of George Street in north Richmond after a two year old boy was found face down in a tub of water.
Richmond police spokesman Master Sgt. Lowell Neinast said when emergency personnel arrived they found an unresponsive 2 year old boy lying on his back near the front door of the house with his grandmother and mother trying to revive him.
Neinast said Jose Rodriguez, Jr., 2, was playing in the house with another young child as his grandmother cooked in the kitchen and his mother was in a nearby bedroom. Neinast said when the boy’s grandmother went to answer a knock at the front door, she heard water running in the bathroom. Immediately she went to the bathroom where she discovered little Jose floating face down in the bathtub that was now full of water.
Jose’s mother and grandmother both tried to revive the toddler. Neinast said Richmond Fire Department and Fort Bend Paramedics arrived soon after and began CPR then transported the tot to Oak Bend ER where they were able to get a pulse. Jose was then transported by helicopter to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
Jose Rodriguez, Jr., died late Saturday night after being taken off of life support. An autopsy performed by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as a drowning. Neinast said, The case remains under investigation but at this point there does not appear to be any foul play or suspicious activity; no charges are expected to be filed.
