YMCA summer sites come together for “Campapolusa”
Recently, the seven YMCA youth outreach summer camp sites across Fort Bend County converged on Mustang Park, Fresno, for their annual mid-summer “Campapolusa” field day and picnic. Over three hundred and fifty Fort Bend County area youth participated in a variety of activities and competitions. “The event is a great way for the kids to experience fellowship, fun and food, as well as building their leadership and teamwork skills,” stated Kem Redic, YMCA Community Outreach Director.
The YMCA “Campapolusa” event was created in 2009 by YMCA volunteers and staff in an effort to broaden the life experiences of the youth in YMCA summer outreach programs and to instill a sense of pride for the community that they represent.
The highlight of the Y “Campapolusa” event is the annual talent show. During the talent show, each YMCA site presents their best talents in a variety of singing and dancing performances.
The celebrity judges for the 2012 contest included John Kush, NRG Energy; Darren McCarthy, City of Rosenberg Parks; Mayor Vincent Morales, City of Rosenberg; and Justin Vickrey, First Community Bank. After scoring all of the wonderful talent at the event, the judges awarded the talent show championship to a dance team from the YMCA’s Mustang Park site. The winning team was made up of Daylan Pruitt, Freddie Bertrand, David Blue and Jacob Bell.
