Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustee Jim Rice elected to statewide association board

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has elected Jim Rice of Fort Bend ISD to the TASB Board of Directors, filling the interim 4G position. Rice, elected to his local board in 2010, currently serves as president and previously served as secretary.

He has been a resident of Sugar Land since 1981 and is president of Rice & Gardner Consultants, an engineering and construction management firm. An active member of the Boy Scouts of America, Rice serves on the Sam Houston Area Council Board of Directors.

He also has extensive experience working directly with youth in the Boy Scouts and church, and all three of his sons are Eagle Scouts. In addition, he has served on the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 2005 and currently serves a second term as vice-chair of the Chamber’s education division. Rice also is a 2005 graduate of the Fort Bend Chamber’s Leadership Forum Class.

In other activities, Rice serves on the board of directors for the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County; served for a two-year term on the Fort Bend Regional P16 Council, which is dedicated to supporting student achievement; and is co-founder and past chair of the board of directors of Fort Bend Cares – a 501 c(3) charitable foundation.

TASB is a nonprofit organization established in 1949 to serve local public school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state.

The districts they represent serve more than 4.9 million public school students.
