The 3rd Annual Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee is buzzing with opportunities

Kevin Gardner and Crissy Nolen are the King and Queen Bees, or Co-Chairs, of the 3rd Annual Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee.

Have you heard the newzzzz?!  The bees are buzzing around Fort Bend County as the Literacy Council’s 3rd Annual Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee is quickly approaching!  The Grown-Up Spelling Bee is a corporate-style luncheon that will take place on Friday, August 24, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the University of Houston-Sugar Land.

Watch your neighbors, co-workers and friends compete against one another to win a coveted spot in our “Honey Hall of Fame.”  Teams of three adults will compete to earn the b-r-a-g-g-a-d-o-c-i-o rights as the “Best Grown-Up Spellers in the County.”

Feeling rusty on your spelling ability?  Don’t worry!  We will provide each team with a list of words to study prior to the Bee.  Also, we are offering spell-agains, mulligans and stingers for strategic teams to purchase.  Don’t “Bee” a “Humble Bee;” “Bee” a “Bumble Bee” and grab two of your co-workers, friends or family members to join the fun as participants in our Bee.

Sponsorship and underwriting opportunities are available for this event, and they range in price from $5,000 to $100.  Our underwriting opportunities are available at the $2,500 and $1,200 level.  As an underwriter, you will receive a discounted team fee.

In addition to regular sponsorships, they are offering smaller sponsorships, such as “Bee a Word Sponsor” for $200. At the $200 level, the sponsor will have a spelling word that is related to their business called during the Bee as one of the spelling words. For $100, a sponsor can be a letter in our “A-Bee-C’s for Literacy” or “Friends of Literacy” alphabet sponsorship opportunity.  Sponsors have the chance to claim the first letter of their business name, last name, children’s name, etc., and have that letter represent their business or their family.  The “Literacy Alphabets” will be displayed at the event and on the website.

If you have never donated to the Literacy Council, now is your chance!  There are other various opportunities to sponsor this event, and all proceeds benefit the life changing programs of the Literacy Council.

Whether you are interested in supporting literacy by sponsoring the event, or you are interested in spelling, but can’t form a team – contact us!  We are looking for spellers and sponsors!

For more information, please visit our website, or contact the Literacy Council at 281.240.8181.  We hope to see you at the Bee on Friday, August 24, 2012!
