Bush High School Senior earns first place at Technology Students Association competition
Bush High School senior Elise Doan was among three Fort Bend ISD students to compete at the 2012 Technology Students Association (TSA) National Conference, held June 20-25 in Nashville, TN. (Also competing were Bush High School sophomore Syed Ali and Hightower High School senior Colleen Crottie.) Students advanced to the national technology competition after winning at the regional and state level competitions.
This year’s event welcomed approximately 5,000 students from across the nation, including international delegations from Germany, Turkey and Austria. Students competed in more than 60 competitive events (such as Construction Renovation, Agriculture and Biotechnology Design, and Digital Video Production) based on principles and concepts learned through projects during the school year in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. The conference recognized the technological future of the nation with the theme, “The Road to Success.”
Doan competed in the Architect Model Design and Construction category and earned 1st place for her “Horizons Adult Day Care Center” design. She also scored an “Excellent” in the Notebook Presentation, Model Design, and Interview categories. This is her third attempt at top honors in the national competition. Last year, she placed 5th in the nation; and in 2010, she earned 6th place. Her TSA Advisor is Keith Brinson, architecture teacher at Bush High School.
