Clements HS parent volunteers preparing for another exciting year
Parent volunteers at Clements High School are making their presence felt by supporting students and staff with pre-back-to-school events. The Band VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) are busy assisting the band and Color Guard as they learn new routines. The school’s Athletic Booster Club VIPS are working with coaches to prepare for fall sporting events, and a host of other parent volunteers are selling parking permits to juniors and seniors.
Clements is fortunate to have nearly 500 parent volunteers to support the students and staff each school year. Julia Saller and Fran Steele are the Campus VIPS Coordinators who organize parent volunteer efforts at the school. Last year, they helped parents earn a total of 37,686 volunteer hours. They both look forward to another exciting year in volunteerism.
“The Clements VIPS truly do rock,” said Steele, “and we are looking forward to another exciting year at Clements. When school begins, we’ll help counselors with student schedules, locker assignments, textbook check-out and numerous other activities.”
Clements VIPS will also remain active throughout the school year by supporting the school’s booster clubs, the District’s Shared Dreams Program, the Youth Expanding Services (YES) organization, Project Graduation, hospitality efforts and more. As events take place, Clements VIPS can count on Coach John Furlow, Girls’ Athletic Coordinator at Clements, to help publicize the events by keeping the school marquees up-to-date.
“Coach Furlow is a big help to us and we appreciate all he does to support the parent volunteers,” added Steele.
