Stafford MSD prepares for the first day of school
By Karen Daniels
You’ve seen the commercials, read the ads, and most likely participated in tax-free weekend. School is back in session. On Monday, August 27, every student in the Texas public school system begins their new year. This year, Stafford MSD and City Council have approved a 3% percent raise to all employees. With increased morale and a new format of learning instruction, this year looks promising for the District.
SMSD still has construction going on that will not be completed until the Summer/Fall of 2013. There will be traffic concerns that need to be worked out due to ongoing renovations, but on the first day of school parking will be available at the Civic Center for parents who would like to walk their student to class. Dr. Hindt is encouraging all parents to put their children on the air-conditioned buses after the first day to help alleviate traffic congestion.
The Primary school entrance at this time will be utilizing the entrance of the elementary school. On rainy days, car-riders will be dropped off at the front of the school near the covered awnings. Parents will continue to drop-off and pick up secondary students in the same area as last year near the gyms in the stadium parking lot. If you are attending this Thursday’s Teacher Meet and Greets at the primary, elementary, and intermediate schools, you may need to park in the designated field area along Constitution Drive. This parking will also be used for Open Houses at all campuses on September 4-6.
Check out the school’s website (www.stafford.msd.esc4.net) for important information like school supply lists, dress codes, bus schedules, and lunch menus. And if you’re interested in serving on the MSD School Board, the deadline to submit a one-page letter of interest is August 24 at noon. You will need to provide the following information:
1. Describe Stafford MSD in 10 words or less
2. Why serving on the school board is important to you
3. What your current involvement is with the school system and other organizations
4. Tell about you as a person and as a resident of Stafford
5. What direction would you like to see the school district head in the coming 3 years
6. Your educational and occupational background
