Richmond’s 175th Birthday Celebration

The Faske Family will be riding their longhorns in the parade.

Richmond’s 175th Birthday Celebration will kick-off with a parade, 10:00 a.m., September 15,  beginning at the new LifeCheck Pharmacy and continuing down Morton Street ending at 2nd Street near the Fire Station.

Betty Humphrey, a longtime resident and icon announcer for the Fort Bend County parade, has come out of retirement and will be the announcer for Richmond’s 175th Birthday Celebration parade.

“The fabulous Fort Bend County Rodeo Sweethearts will lead the parade riding horseback. We also have floats from Richmond businesses and organizations, boy scout troops, fire trucks, vintage autos, bands from Lamar and Foster High Schools, a mule drawn covered wagon, gunfighters and so much more,” said Peggy Mathis, chair, Parade, Richmond’s 175th Birthday Celebration.

One of the many highlights of the parade will be the Faske Family Longhorn Riders from Somerville, Texas.

“Jay and Suzanne were blessed with three birth children and have adopted twenty-one children from seven different countries, some of whom have special challenges.

The one thing they all have in common though is their love of longhorns.

As a family, they decided to raise Registered Texas Longhorns, after learning about this great, historical breed of cattle,” Mathis said.

In the parade, the family will be riding some of their prized possession longhorns, and it is a sight you do not want to miss.

“A favorite characteristic of Texas longhorns is their long horns. No other breed in the industry can match the magnificence and beauty of a Texas longhorn. No two look the same and they truly are a living symbol of the Old West,” Mathis said.

“Our oldest is 24 years old and our youngest is two months. We are looking forward to coming to Richmond, and riding in the parade,” said Suzanne Faske.

There have been numerous TV, newspaper and magazine interviews of the Faske family, as well as an offer for a reality show. They turned down the reality show, opting instead for a more normal way of life than with camera following them around.

Richmond’s 175th Birthday Celebration, will also have all day entertainment on stage near city hall, a fashion show: Fashion through the decades, street entertainment, old timey trolley car for historical tours, speakers, close to 100 vendors, many surprises, tours, wine patio, food galore, and so so much more. So mark your calendars now for Sept. 15, 2012, and plan to arrive early!
