Volunteers distribute backpacks at Lamar CISD’s Smith Elementary
Employees from Fluor went back to school, Monday, bringing with them enough backpacks and school supplies for every student at Lamar CISD’s Smith Elementary in Richmond.
Fluor employees donated funds for the school supplies and loaded the backpacks, so students could start the year ready to learn.
“As an engineering firm, we know that you have to have the right tools to the job the right way,” said Richard Meserole, Houston vice president and general manager “Our employees just wanted to help these students succeed. We know the kids and staff will do their part. This is our small part.”
“The more I work with the folks at with Fluor, the more I am impressed with their heart of giving,” said Mark Melendez, Smith Elementary principal. “This company is absolutely changing communities all over the world. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to associate with such generous people who are not just working to turn a profit, but to better the lives of the communities around them.
“This gift is more than school supplies and back packs,” Melendez said. “It is a much-needed relief to the parents of the Smith Elementary community who work hard to make ends meet each month. Words cannot express the gratitude that is felt by Smith parents, students and staff. “
