Child donates all of his birthday gifts
Birthday parties are more than just child’s play for Zachary Ruben – they’re an opportunity to give to those in need. He celebrated his seventh birthday with a party and, like most boys, he asked for sports equipment such as jump ropes and soccer balls. But, unlike many, he then promptly donated his gifts to Armstrong Elementary School, a local elementary school in need.
Armstrong Elementary School is a Title I school located in Missouri City. A relatively new school, the elementary school serves many children in need and doesn’t even have a Parent Teacher Organization. And, the school was in need of playground equipment.
That’s where Zachary stepped in. He recognized that he could help other children by this selfless act of kindness and consideration.
“Zachary had a great time at his birthday party. He collected five basketballs, eight soccer balls, 11 playground balls, 18 jump ropes, a hula hoop and a $25 gift card to be used for playground equpment for Armstrong,” said his mother, Michelle Ruben, “We are so proud of him!”
Zachary is a second grader at Scanlan Oaks Elementary School in Sienna Plantation and a member of First United Methodist Church Missouri City.
