Library celebrates “Teen Read Week” with spooky story contest

Missouri City Branch Library, 1530 Texas Parkway, joins the American Library Association in celebrating the 15th annual Teen Read Week™, October 14-20, with a special Spooky Story Contest for teens in grades 6 to 8. Entries should be submitted to the Youth Services department by Tuesday, October 9.

The winner will be announced at the Teen Read Week celebration, “Gory Goodies & Scary Stories,” on Tuesday, October 16, beginning at 5:00 pm. The writer of the winning entry will receive a Nook™ Color, and must be present to win. All participants will get the chance to share their stories and enjoy some treats.

The stories should be no longer than five pages. Topics may include scary or humorous Halloween stories, dark teen romances, horror, suspense, or mysteries.

Teen Read Week™ is the national adolescent literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest-growing division of the American Library Association.

For more information, call the Missouri City Branch Library at 281-238-2100 or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
