University Branch Library hosts “Spooky Family Movies at library”

In October, the Youth Services department at the University Branch Library will host a “Spooky Movies at the Library” series features family-friendly favorites for children in the 2nd grade or higher. The movies begin at 2:00 pm every Saturday in October, and will be shown in the Large Meeting Room of the University Branch Library, located at 14010 University Blvd. in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.

The first movie of the month will be shown on Saturday, October 6. Movie-goers will be treated to an animated family feature about three teens who discover that their neighbor’s house is really a living, breathing, scary monster. No adults will believe them, so it’s up to them to save the neighborhood when creepy events start to happen. This movie is rated PG.

The movie on Saturday, October 13, is about the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, who has grown bored with the same old activities every year. One day, he stumbles upon Christmas Town, and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween Town to help him put on a Christmas celebration instead of Halloween, but alas – they can’t get it quite right. This movie is rated PG.

On Saturday, October 20, movie-goers will be treated to an animated adventure comedy based on a popular Saturday-morning cartoon series. In this film, Fred takes the gang for a trip down memory lane when he brings them to Camp Little Moose for a visit. When they arrive, however, they discover that camp has been cancelled because of the appearance of an ax-wielding maniac called the Woodsman. There is nothing like a mystery to fire up the gang’s sense of adventure! As they try to unravel the mystery of the Woodsman, the gang runs into other scary monsters who are frightening campers away. This film is not rated.

The movie on Saturday, October 27, was inspired by a popular ride at Disney World. In this live-action film, Eddie Murphy stars as a workaholic real-estate agent who finds that his latest property listing is haunted. His encounter with the ghosts teaches him about the importance of the family he has long neglected. Enjoy fun special effects and non-stop laughs in this family adventure. This movie is rated PG.

The “Spooky Movies at the Library” series is free and open to the public. For more information, call the branch library at 281-633-5100 or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
