Woman’s Club of Missouri City hold kick-off meeting

The Woman’s Club of Missouri City had its kick-off meeting for the new season at the home of Allen and Jane Owen.  As the club moves forward, its theme will be Catch the Spirit! Join the Club!  President Jo Butterfield anticipates an exciting year and told the members that “we have begun to revitalize our club with new members and new adventures.”

She introduced and welcomed three new members — Carol Grates, Jeannie Hillier and Linda Emery. The Woman’s Club of Missouri City is the oldest service organization in Fort Bend County. It has been providing community service since 1956.

Leadership includes Jo Butterfield, President; Jane Thompson, Vice President; Jane Owen, Recording Secretary; Milly Smith, Corresponding Secretary; Nancy Thurmond, Treasurer; Ann Smith, Parliamentarian; and Jean Shelledy, Historian.

Since 2003, WCMC has awarded $ 44,000 in scholarships to Missouri City high school graduates. At the end of 2011, WCMC made donations to the Elkins Habitat for Humanity program, the Dew House Museum and the FBISD Shared Dreams project.

Jane Thompson announced that the WCMC is planning its first social to be held at the City Centre at Quail Valley on Saturday, October 6.
