A group of seven Fort Bend ISD youngsters geared up for the UnitedHealthcare IronKids Galveston Fun Run, which was held Saturday, September 22, at Moody Gardens. For the past two months, the students have trained with FBISD’s UnitedHealthcare School Wellness Coordinator, Stephanie Kellam, in preparation for the 1-mile race.
During the summer months, the students met at Kempner High School’s track on Friday mornings. Once school began, they moved their training to Thursday evenings on Garcia Middle School’s new track.
“The students are not your typical athletes, but they have done a fantastic job with the training,” said Kellam. “They have worked extremely hard and deserve to be called IronKids champions!”
UnitedHealthcare has sponsored the race entries for students in the FBISD training group and has also provided them with free t-shirts and shorts, water bottles and backpacks.
