Lamar CISD schedules forums on redistricting
The Lamar CISD Board of Trustees will hold two public forums regarding the proposed redistricting of trustee election districts. The forums will be held October 11 and October 23 and each will begin at 7 p.m. in the Brazos Crossing Building, 2911 Avenue I in Rosenberg.
The District is divided into seven single-member election districts and residents of each district elect a single member to the Board of Trustees. Because areas of Lamar CISD have experienced dramatic population growth between 2000 and 2010, federal law requires that the District redraw boundaries for each of the District’s election districts.
The public hearings will allow community members to learn about proposed boundary changes and to give input to the Board as it considers adoption of a proposed redistricting plan. After the Board adopts a proposed redistricting plan, the District must submit the proposed plan to the Department of Justice for final approval. Once approved, the new election district boundaries will take effect for the May 2013 Trustee election. Districts 1, 2, 3 and 6 are up for election in 2013; districts 4, 5 and 7 are up for election in 2014.
