Travis High School to host “80’s Spooktacular” workshop
Elementary students are invited to participate in a Halloween-themed workshop hosted by the Travis Theatrical Company. For two Saturdays, Travis theatre students will be working with first through fifth-grade students on zombie makeup, creating a zombie costume and learning Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance in preparation for a show at the end of the 80’s Spooktacular workshop.
The workshop costs $40 per student and will be held on Saturday, October 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and continue on Saturday, October 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Black Box at Travis High School, 11111 Harlem Rd., Richmond. Children will need to bring a sack lunch (snacks will be provided), and a pair of old clothes that can be ripped and painted for the zombie costumes. Additional information and the registration form can be found at www.travistheatricalcompany.com.
A student performance of “Thriller,” as well as performances by members of the Travis Theatrical Company, will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the auditorium on October 27. Parents of students in the workshop will receive two tickets to the show, but for others who would like to attend, tickets are $5 per person.
The 80’s Spooktacular workshop coincides with an 80’s theme for this year’s Travis theatre productions. In November, Travis will be performing “1984,” based on the George Orwell novel. For their spring musical, theatre students will lace up their roller skates as they present “Xanadu,” inspired by the 1980 Olivia Newton-John movie.
