Being confined to a wheelchair poses a host of challenges for many individuals including a growing number of returning veterans. This week, Classic Chevrolet unveiled the first full size pickup truck specifically equipped for a wheelchair, giving a much needed alternative to the traditional minivan for drivers. The Chevy Silverado full size pickup is equipped with a patented lift system which gives handicapped drivers back a sense of greater freedom, independence and style. Unlike a modified minivan, the Silverado truck also accommodates a passenger in the front seat, as well as room for 3 more in the back passenger seats. The door opens 36” to allow for parking in standard spaces and comes with a 4×4 option to allow safer travel in inclement weather.
“We’re excited to be the exclusive Chevrolet dealer in Houston to offer this amazing vehicle,” explains Don Kerstetter, owner of Classic Chevrolet. “It really gives us an opportunity to make a huge difference in our customer’s lives. Before, if a person in a wheelchair wanted to drive a truck, they had to break down the chair everytime they drove. Now with this lift system on the Silverado, they simply push a button on a remote and the lift literally puts them in the driver’s seat. ”
On hand to view the vehicle at Classic Chevrolet, and discuss the current business environment was Congressman Pete Olsen. Congressman Olsen was joined by Wyatt Wainwright, President of the Houston Automobile Dealer Association, and past President Walter Wainwright of the HADA, and Marvin Marcell.
