Counterfeit cash found at the Fort Bend Co. Fair

When thinking about being conned at a county fair, it is hard to imagine it was the carnival crowd that was conned by two separate groups at the Fort Bend County Fair.

Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel said, “Two separate cases and arrests were made at the Fort Bend County Fair last week with two adults and three juveniles facing charges.”  He explained that carnival workers alerted deputies that they had received bogus bills in the midway. The bills appeared to be twenty dollar bills but were counterfeit.

The suspects were described by carnival workers as a white male and a black male, who were later identified as  Nelson Ray White, 24, and Ryan Walker, 26, both from Needville.  Haenel said, “Deputies found counterfeit $20, $10 and $5 bills. The culprits would pay for a game and use the bills to receive change in real currency.”  White and Walker were arrested and face charges.

Haenel said the second case occurred on the last Friday of the Fair.  Again, carnival workers were able to immediately identify the counterfeit bills and notified deputies.  In this incident three Missouri City teenaged girls were passing the funny money.  The girls were identified by carnival staff and one of the teens still had some of the bogus cash in her possession.

The cases involving the juvenile females remain under investigation.
