The Fort Bend Grid Iron Football League, founded three years ago by former Texas A&M and Houston Oiler quarterback Bucky Richardson, promotes “building character and community through youth football” and is open to all students between the ages of 7 and 12 who are zoned to the Fort Bend or Lamar Consolidated school districts.
Sugar Land resident John Flannery, also a former Oilers player, is the Zone coordinator for the George Ranch Longhorn zone.
This year, the teams that headed into the playoffs consist of Sugar Land, Richmond and Missouri City boys who are zoned to Clements and George Ranch and Ridgepoint. The winners of the these games will advance to the League Super Bowl which will be held in Constellation field on Sunday, October 28.
