Story Book Drive benefiting United Through Reading’s Military Program
Lambda Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International of key women educators will conduct a Story Book Drive for United Through Reading’s Military Program.
Donations of new hardback children’s books may be given to any Society member or dropped off at Teacher Heaven Educational Supply Store, 1625 Southwest Freeway, just east of Murphy Road, from now through November 30.
A book list will be available at Teachers Heaven. It includes books from the following series authors/characters: Dr. Seuss, Spot, Curious George, Danny and the Dinosaur, Cordoruy, and If yu give a Mouse a…Other suggestions include Charlotte’s Web, The Soldier’s Night before Christmas, The Night Before Christmas, Tikki,Tikki Tembo, Bridge to Terabithia, Where the Wild Things Are, I Love My Daddy, What Moms Can Do, Guess How Much I Love You, or any other personal favorites.
Books will be shipped to deployed service members via 200 United Through Reading sites around the world, including 70 USO centers. Service members will have the opportunity to be video-recorded reading these storybooks to their children. The recorded DVD will be sent home along with the book.
By connecting separated families through reading, United Through Reading’s Military Program eases the stress of separation and raises morale for military families by strengthening positive emotional bonds.
