Foster, Terry students recognized as Hispanic Scholars
Three Lamar CISD students have been selected for the National Hispanic Recognition Program. Victoria Contreras and Donovan Lemaster are seniors at Foster High School and Jacob Becerra is a senior at Terry High School.
Although this recognition does not provide a financial award, being selected is an important academic achievement. The National Hispanic Recognition Program was established in 1983 through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and each year recognizes only 5,000 outstanding Hispanic/Latino students nationwide.
Qualifications for recognition are based on critical reading, mathematics and writing scores on the PSAT/NMSQT and a minimum grade point average of 3.0. In addition, recipients of this honor must be Hispanic or Latino in origin. The NHRP sends a list of all recognized students to subscribing colleges and universities that are particularly interested in academically outstanding seniors of Hispanic/Latino heritage.
