Veteran’s Day was declared after WWI in 1919 at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, in the eleventh month. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Congressman Pete Olson was on hand to present the City of Meadows Place, Mayor Charles Jessup, with a historical flag that flew over the United States Capital in Washington D.C. The Meadows Place City Hall will now proudly display this flag on their “Wall of Heroes” that show photos of residents that are currently active in the military.

Congressman Olson, a former US Naval Aviator, told the audience that since World War I “precious blood has been spread across the world” from Americans. “No one loves our military more than Texas, and nobody loves our Veterans more than Meadows Place.” He gave a challenge to those in attendance to celebrate Veterans Day everyday, and if we see a man or woman in uniform, tell them how much you appreciate their sacrifice.

Standing with the Congressman and Mayor, 2nd Class Petty Officer, Jason R. “Bob” Gill has served in the Navy for seven years. He studied information technology and currently works at the recruiting office in Houston. His mother, Sherry Gill, proudly spoke of his service and dedication, but also mentioned one of his humanitarian deployments involved assisting in a rescue and the capture of Somalian Pirates.

Mayor Jessup said, “On behalf of the City of Meadows Place, we thank you.”
