Tree of Honor event to honor Linda Hancock, posthumously

Event to benefit Meals On Wheels Fort Bend

On December 13, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, along with Honorary Chair, Nancy Olson, will host the 5th Annual Tree of Honor at Classic Chevrolet located at 13115 Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land. The Tree of Honor is a celebration of lives….those who have gone before us and those you hold most dear. The event will begin at 6:00 pm, with the Tree of Honor Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 pm.

This year, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels has chosen to honor longtime volunteer and community activist, Linda Hancock, posthumously.

She was recognized for many accomplishments including: One of Texas’ 10 Outstanding Republican Women by the Texas Federation of Republican Women, she was Commissioned the Yellow Rose of Texas by Governor George W. Bush in 1995, Volunteer of the Year – Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, Houston Chronicle’s Faces In The Crowd and the was given the Judge James Adolphus Award for Outstanding Service to the Republican Party and the Community.

Educational Awards Foundation and Casa de Esperanza. She was a member of Sugar Land United Methodist Church with her husband, John.

“The world got a little darker when we lost Linda Hancock this year,” said Nancy Olson. “She was a brilliant force of light; for no one worked harder or was more committed to the causes she believed in. She was a true champion for Fort Bend Seniors, and therefore; it is so fitting she be remembered and honored at this event. She is truly missed by so many.”

“Linda was a dedicated supporter of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels,” said Manuela Arroyos, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels CEO. “For too many years to count, Linda gave of her time, energy and resources to help grow our agency. There was no question about honoring her work and her memory at this year’s Tree of Honor event.”

All of the lights and ornaments on the tree will symbolize someone special and those honored will have their names called during at the Tree Lighting Ceremony. You can join the Honorary Circle for $500. Lights and ornaments also available for purchase are: $10 Light; $25 Dove Ornament; $50 Angel Ornament and $100 Star Ornament. Each donor will receive a special token to be given to the named honoree.

Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided. There will be a variety of holiday tunes at the Tree of Honor, and for the children, there will be face painting, holiday coloring and cookies.
