Two gun-toting men rob Stafford bank
By LeaAnne Klentzman
Wednesday afternoon, about 2 p.m., two armed men ran into the Houston Community Bank on Murphy Road near Houston Community College and waved their weapons around and demanded money.
According to Stafford police spokesman Raphael Virata, the men ran into the bank; one jumped the counter and began to load cash into a bag from a teller’s drawer while the other lurked in the lobby. As the counter-jumper was loading his loot into his bag, many of the bank employees escaped out the back door of the building to wait for police.
Once the two had a bag of cash they fled back out the front door and left the scene in a white suburban, later identified as stolen out of Montgomery County. Virata said the getaway car was found just blocks away, abandoned behind some trees on Cash Road with pink paint splattered on the inside of the windows. Virata said the red/pink dye indicates that the dye pack in the money exploded inside the Suburban.
Virata said no identifying information was available because the two had disguises covering their faces. The Stafford police department and the FBI are working a joint investigation on this case.
