Chance for look-see at Grand Parkway’s Section C

By Elsa Maxey

Many Fort Bend County residents probably know that Segments C and D of the Grand Parkway are each primarily located within their county. But what they may not know is that a public workshop on Segment C is about to take place. The Grand Parkway Association and TxDOT will present the workshop this Thursday, December 6, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m, at the George Ranch High School. It will be about the schematics and the findings of a final environmental impact statement for Segment C. The workshop is intended to be an open house style type of meeting, which means there will be no formal presentations.

Essentially, the public workshop will detail plans for the segment’s proposed construction from US 59 to SH 288 in Fort Bend and Brazoria Counties. As proposed, the project consists of the construction of a controlled access toll road. There will also be right-of-way required, and TxDOT personnel at the workshop will provide information about land acquisition relating to the project.

Segment C will be a 26-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road that is for enhancing mobility in this area. It will have frontage roads from US 59 to SH 288 through the two affected counties.

At this point, area residents are more familiar with the completed Segment D of the Grand Parkway, which is the section from US 59 to IH 10. It reportedly has 9 signalized intersections. The main lanes of this segment were constructed by TxDOT, also in conjunction with Fort Bend County for the area that was more commonly referred to as SH 99. Segment D is 17.4 miles and recent work on this roadway includes improvements such as the construction of tolling overpasses currently underway.
