Golf tournament for Wounded Warrior Monte Bernardo Set for Monday, Dec. 10
Friends and family of Wounded Warrior Monte Bernardo plan to host a charity golf tournament in Sugar Land, Texas to benefit the Bernardo Recovery Fund. The tournament takes place at Sweetwater Country Club on Monday, December 10, 2012. American Airlines is the official airline sponsor of the tournament.
Sergeant Bernardo was seriously injured on July 4, 2012, while serving his second tour in Afghanistan for the United States Army. He lost both legs and his left hand in an IED explosion. As he continues to persevere in his rehabilitation efforts at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Bernardo’s friends and family have rallied to support him.
The Holes for a Hero tournament can accommodate 275 golfers. Single golfers can pay $225 to play in the tournament. Teams of four golfers can pay $800 for a reduced rate. The tournament entry fee includes breakfast, lunch, and entry in closest-to-the-pin and longest drive contests. On-site registration and breakfast begins at 7 a.m. followed by a putting contest at 8 a.m. The tournament will have a scramble start at 9 a.m. Lunch, awards, and a silent auction will begin at 2 p.m.
American Airlines is donating four-round trip plane tickets plus hotel stay to a Mexican destination for the silent auction. Mercedes-Benz is donating a Mercedes-Benz C-Class for a hole-in-one competition.
