Reader responds to “Captain sails course to ban Sugar Land Red Light cameras”

Dear Editor,

Please be advised that Captain Van is nothing more than a lawyer chasing after business.

The basis of my claim is that Red Light Camera citations are civil matters and thus are not available to being represented by an attorney and Cap. Van is a lawyer.

Additionally, public safety takes it on the chin again in that the civil ticket does not show up on a person’s record and does not impact the cost of insurance, thus there is no sting which might be cause for the offending driver to correct his/her ways.

Proof is available that shows Red Light Cameras cause a drop in accidents and that helps us all.
