FBISD volunteers celebrate the season at Annual Recognition Ceremony
Fort Bend ISD’s Community Partnerships Department welcomed more than 150 Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) to its annual VIPS Salute, held at the FBISD Administrative Annex. The event is held each year to honor volunteers for the wonderful contributions they make to students and schools.
Welcoming guests to the event were Michael McKie, FBISD Acting Superintendent; Pamela Shaw, Volunteers and Partnerships Coordinator; Bobbie Anderson, Shared Dreams Facilitator; and Reba Cook, Volunteers and Partnerships Administrative Assistant. As guests arrived, they enjoyed spirited music performed by Dulles High School’s Encore String Quintet, directed by Michael Isadore, and viewed a slide presentation highlighting volunteers in action. In keeping with the spirit of the season, guests were also invited to bring donations of canned fruit, soup or cereal to benefit the District’s Shared Dreams Holiday Cheer program.
Pamela Shaw kicked off the program by welcoming the honored guests and thanking them for sharing their time and talents with the District. Michael McKie followed, echoing Shaw’s sentiments. “Volunteers are an integral part of our equation and the backbone that supports the efforts of our teachers and school staff,” he said. “Without you, we wouldn’t get the job done.”
Also attending the Salute were: Grayle James, FBISD Board Member; Dr. Rhonda McWilliams, Assistant Superintendent; Dr. Phillys Hill, Assistant Superintendent; Dr. Javier Villarreal, Assistant Superintendent; and Robert Calvert, Chief Information Officer. They each personally thanked volunteers representing various campuses for the remarkable job they do in support of FBISD schools.
Before guests departed, Shaw joined Nancy Porter, Chief Communications Officer, and Stacey Crews, Communications Director, in presenting door prizes that were generously donated by area merchants.
