Heritage Rose Elementary School’s Community Health Fair draws crowd

Mary Kiernan, FBISD Substance Abuse Specialist, provided information on maintaining a safe and drug-free lifestyle.

More than 200 participants took part in a recent Community Health Fair, hosted by Heritage Rose Elementary School’s (HRE) Parent Resource Center. The free event offered community members a wealth of health-related resources and services provided by area professionals.

The health fair featured 15 vendors who provided such services as dental and vision screenings, immunizations, flu shots, and health education. Participants also enjoyed door prizes, including two iPods, and restaurant and grocery store gift cards.

“This was our school’s first community health fair, and I must say it was a great success,” said Tyenise Blackmon, HRE Parent Center Coordinator. “We welcomed more than 200 community members, provided each family with fresh produce, and helped to increase health awareness in our community. We plan on making this an annual event.”

The health fair committee thanks its sponsors Amerigroup and Sugar Grove Church of Christ; Stephanie Kellam, FBISD School District Wellness Coordinator; and members of Crossing Point Church, local Girl Scout troops, and HRE parents and staff who volunteered their time to making this a successful community-wide event.
