3rd Annual Sugar Land New Year’s Eve celebration takes place in Town Square
The City of Sugar Land’s presenting sponsor for the 3rd annual New Year’s Eve on the Square celebration is OneMain Financial. The event is scheduled for Dec. 31, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
“As a community lender, our roots go back 100 years and so does our commitment to the customers we serve and communities where we live, work and do business,” said OneMain Financial District Manager Sarah Schaft.
With a state-of-art 3D midnight sugar cube drop, giant carnival walking puppets and statuesque stilt walking “light beings,” the event is sure to bring excitement and energy to this one of a kind year end celebration.
“We are very excited in providing an electrifying event for our community,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Jim Browne. “Having the support from corporations such as OneMain Financial is crucial to us being better able to leverage the quality, entertainment and event infrastructure needed to host one of the City’s largest award-winning events and all while making it better and better each year.”
To be sure everyone is able to enjoy the festivities, the event is divided into two segments:
• A family-friendly, children’s celebration with a countdown and fireworks finale will be held from 7-9 p.m.
• From 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. alcohol will be serving to responsible adults during an adult celebration that will include a world-famous 3D midnight sugar cube show.
“Our employees are excited to celebrate the holidays with their families and friends in the communities in which they live,” said OneMain Financial District Manager Fred Ortiz. “We here in Sugar Land are especially excited to celebrate New Year’s Eve with our neighbors at this great event.”
Attendees will experience mesmerizing scenes such as ordinary blocks of ice being transformed into stunning statues and cirque stilt walkers roaming City Walk Drive. A variety of tantalizing music performed by Rapture and DJ MODE will fill the air throughout the night. Fun and excitement will wait around every corner.
Admission and all activities including parking and shuttle service from Mercer Stadium are free while food and beverages will be sold at a nominal cost.
People who identify themselves as designated drivers will receive free soft drinks and water throughout the evening from any beverage station at the event. Taxi services will be available starting at 11 p.m. Taxis can either be pre-booked or booked that night by visiting the City of Sugar Land information kiosk.
