2010 fingerprint leads to 2012 arrest

By LeaAnne Klentzman

In 2010 Deputy J. Delgado dusted for fingerprints at a residential burglary scene in rural Katy. Delgado was called to investigate the burglary of an apartment at the Broadstone Complex near Katy on April 8, 2010 when credit cards, a television, jewelry, and a gun were stolen. According to Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel one of the items that Delgado dusted for fingerprints was a jewelry box that was left on the bed by the suspect.

The fingerprint from that jewelry box was entered into the national fingerprint database. That print stayed in the system and on December 27, 2012, it was matched to a man who Stafford Police arrested on charges of Burglary of a Habitation and Evading Detention.

That man has been identified as a Honduran national named Jerson Joel Martinez, 25. A positive identification was made when Martinez was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail and his prints matched those from the 2010 burglary.

According to Haenel, Martinez is in the United States illegally; he now faces yet another Burglary of a Habitation charge and has been placed on hold for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold.

Martinez remains in the Fort Bend County Jail.
