Two accidents in one week – just 2 blocks apart

By LeaAnne Klentzman

Train vs. 18 Wheeler – no winners … Reports indicate the tractor trailer was loaded with two cars, an antique Rolls Royce limo and another car that were both damaged.  The rig reportedly got stuck or caught on the tracks and was dragged more than 150 feet down the railroad tracks.

2013 started off with a couple of traffic crashes for the record books. The first accident was early New Year’s Day near the intersection of Savoy and US 90A.  Sugar Land Police spokesman Doug Adolph said at about 6 a.m. on the morning of the 1st, police responded to a one car accident in which the vehicle was traveling westbound on US 90A and careened into a traffic pole near the intersection of Savoy.  According to Adolph, the passenger had to be extricated from the car and died shortly thereafter.

Less than a week later, and about 2 blocks to the west, Sugar Land Police were again on the scene of a noteworthy accident.  In this accident no life was lost but the tractor-trailer rig that tried to cross the train tracks suffered catastrophic loss, not to mention the antique Rolls Royce crunched in the middle.

Monday morning, January 7, an 18 wheeler carrying cars got stuck high center on the tracks in front of the old sugar factory and was hit by an eastbound freight train. Traffic was snarled for hours. No dollar amount was available at press time for the damage to all the vehicles.
