FBISD to host “Chopped” – Cafeteria Manager Edition

On Thursday, January 24, a group of 12 Fort Bend ISD cafeteria managers, representing campuses from across the District, will compete against each other in FBISD’s first “Chopped” competition. Sponsored by UnitedHealthcare and Activate for Kids, this free event will be held from 4:30 to 7:00 pm, in Dulles High School’s cafeteria, 550 Dulles Avenue.

Based loosely on the Food Network’s hit television show, “Chopped,” the event will allow cafeteria managers to compete in one of three categories: breakfast, vegetarian lunch, and non-vegetarian lunch.

The chefs will receive a mystery basket containing five healthy ingredients and will have 25 minutes to prepare a healthy, tasty, and creative dish that will appeal to students. All dishes will be judged by an expert panel of FBISD students, Fort Bend Foodies and community leaders. The “Chopped Champion” in each category will win numerous monetary prizes, as well as the chance to have their dish featured on next year’s school menu.

Cafeteria Manager Habibat Yakubu, from Travis High School, is looking forward to showcasing her creative skills by preparing and encouraging healthy eating habits for all students and employees in Fort Bend ISD.

Come out and enjoy the fun! If you are interested in serving as a sponsor for this event, please contact Wendy Brooks at berryhillsugarland@yahoo.com.
