Travis HS Theatrical Company to present “Xanadu”

The Travis High School Theatrical Company will perform the musical Xanadu, based loosely on the 1980 cult classic movie. Students will be lacing up their roller skates and performing much of the high-energy show on wheels.

Performances will be held on February 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Travis High School auditorium, 11111 Harlem Rd., Richmond.  A 2:00 p.m. matinee performance will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9.  Also, for the Saturday night performances on Feb. 2 and 9, audience members are encouraged to wear their favorite 80’s ensembles!  Please be advised that flashing strobe lights are used periodically during the show.

Directed by Tommy Grubbs, Xanadu focuses on Clio, a greek muse, who comes down from Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California (circa 1980).

Songs include hits such as Olivia Newton-John’s “Magic,” “Suddenly” and “Have You Never Been Mellow,” as well as Electric Light Orchestra’s “Strange Magic,” “Evil Woman,” and “I’m Alive.”  Cory Gibson is the musical director, and Lanie Malik serves as the student choreographer.  Several set pieces are from the actual Broadway production, including the Xanadu sign and telephone booth.

Tickets will be $10 for students and $15 for adults.  For a unique on-stage experience, seats are available for $25 per person for audience members who want to be close to the action.  This show is rated PG-13.  More information about this show and other Travis Theatrical Company news can be found at www.travistheatricalcompany.com.
