City of Meadows Place plans for spring

By Karen Daniels

Although the weather in Fort Bend County feels like spring, according to the calendar it’s still winter. But soon spring really will be here and the City of Meadows Place is hard at work making plans for citizens to get out and participate in the fun. Be sure to jot these dates on your calendar or put them in your smart phone.

Concert on the Lake

April 12, Friday evening, Concert at the Lake will be held on Brighton Lane from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The band, The Revolving Doors, is a nine piece band that plays classic rock and takes requests. Bring your blanket and chairs and dance to some great music. If you’re interested in hearing this band before the event, they will be playing at the Swinging Door on February 16th.

Spring home tour

April 27, Saturday afternoon from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, the Meadows Home and Garden Club will present the Don’t Move, IMPROVE! spring home tour. Come see remodeled gourmet kitchens, outdoor utopias, man caves, and more as you tour nine different homes graciously opened to the public. Tickets purchased prior to the event date will be $10. On the day of the event tickets will be $15. Money raised is put toward scholarships.

General Election

May 11, Saturday from 7:00am – 7:00pm, The City of Meadows Place will hold their general election. If you have a desire to serve and make a difference in the community, two alderman positions are available. Position 4 – Alderman Terry Henley and Position 5 – Alderman John Whiteman. Filing begins on January 30th and ends on March 1st. Stop by City Hall for more information or to place your name on the ballot.

On a more serious note, Captain Jack Ashton spoke about the robberies occurring at the Radio Shacks across the greater Houston area, The City of Meadows Place included. He advised that the group terrorizing store clerks and customers have now begun hitting these stores for a second time. Captain Ashton asked citizens to keep a watchful eye and report any suspicious activity. At this time, Sergeant Simmons is working with a task force in Houston to catch these criminals.
