Pot grow house busted in Sugar Land

An ongoing investigation led narcotics officers to a nice quiet suburban Sugar Land home in the Edgewood subdivision in First Colony.

According to sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel the over month long investigation revealed that a home in the 3200 block of Summer Bay Drive was being used as a grow house for a marijuana operation.

Reportedly, the utilities were by-passed and the operation consisted of 206 marijuana plants, indoor grow lights, scales, water pumps, fans, several inverters and a collection of equipment used for the manufacture, sale and distribution of marijuana.

As the investigation wound to a close, the narcotics deputies obtained a search warrant from a Fort Bend’s associate judge then executed it on the afternoon of the January 25 where they discovered an elaborate grow operation that filled five rooms of the 300k home owned by one of the men arrested.

The two men identified as arrested in relation to this case have been identified as Dong Tien Nguyen, 40, of Sugar Land, and Duyet Nguyen, 41, of Houston. According to county records Duyet Nguyen is the owner of the house and has it listed as his homestead. However; he shows a Stafford motel as his owner address.

Both Nguyen men were booked into the county jail on first degree felony charges of Possession of Marijuana (greater than 50 pounds, less than 2,000 pounds) said Haenel. The bond for each was $50,000 and both had bonded out by Saturday.

Haenel said, “The marijuana seized at the scene had a street value of approximately $824,000.”
