The Judy Matthews Lecture Series begins March 3

Join the Judy Matthews Lecture Series as they host Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas, Senior Professor of Homilectics, as he speaks to us on “Everyday Lessons in Prayer.” This event will take place at First United Methodist Church Missouri City, Sunday, March 3 at 6 p.m. with “The Prayer Questions You’ve Always Wanted to Ask” and continues Monday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. with “The Open Secrets of Prayer, Large and Small.” The Monday evening event includes a soup supper at 5:45 p.m. An added bonus to these presentations is a brown bag luncheon and Q&A session with Dr. Kalas on Monday, March 4 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. All events will be in the church Fellowship Hall. He will also preach the morning of Sunday, March 3 at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m.

Jesus’ disciples asked him to teach them to pray. Jesus’ followers today still ask the same question. Prayer is so natural to us humans that the only people who don’t pray are those who have trained themselves not to. But few of us ever come to enjoy the true riches of prayer. This lecture series seeks to cover prayer, not necessarily from A to Z, but at least from A to B.

Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas is a former president of Asbury Theological Seminary. More than 35 of his books have been published as well as 13 adult study quarterlies for the United Methodist Publishing House. He has recorded the entire Bible on audiotape, along with his Grand Sweep devotionals. He is also the author of Christian Believer, an intensive study of Christian doctrine produced for interdenominational use.

The Judy Matthews Lectureship Series addresses the educational needs of our adults through periodic programming with dynamic Christian educators. This ministry aids in the spiritual growth and faith journey of our members and guests. Call 281-499-3502 to RSVP or online at There is no cost to register and please register for one or all sessions.
