Fort Bend ISD Crossing Guard making a difference in the lives of LCE students

Surrounded by LCE students, Mr Jim makes sure LCE students start their day off right!

January was National Mentor month, and we are very fortunate that FBISD has a great Mentor program that supports the educational, social, and emotional needs of students throughout the district. At Lexington Creek Elementary, they are grateful for the PAL and CARE programs which serve their students.  They are also thankful for our exceptional crossing guard, Mr. Jim White. Mr. Jim not only ensures that the kids cross the street safely, but he is also committed to making sure the kids start their day off right.

“I am the first person they see from the school district, and I want to make sure that they see a smile, and they are excited to go to school to learn”, said White.

Jim has been a crossing guard at Lexington Creek for two years. During this time, he has made a big difference by having an area safety inspection done which lead to adding new fluorescent crossing strips on the street. More importantly, he has doubled his student crossing numbers because of his great outlook on school and learning. Parents make sure their kids cross at his corner so they can see Mr. Jim. There is even one young student who will only cross if Mr. Jim holds her hand!  School Principal Mrs. DeFlora said, “Mr. Jim is truly an asset to our LCE Community and we thankful to have him.”

FBISD has a great quote on their website, “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world” and whether Mr. Jim is hand holding or putting on a smile on a kids face, he is making a positive change in the kids and Lexington Creek Elementary.
