International Festival – Fort Bend Style!
In a continuing celebration of Fort Bend County’s multi-ethnic diversity, the 5th Annual International Festival of Fort Bend will be hosted on Sunday, March 24, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at the Stafford Centre in the Convention Centre Ballrooms. The theme of this year’s event is “Children of the World.” The City of Stafford once again is serving as the major sponsor. Other entities, organizations, and groups are co-sponsoring.
As in previous years, the International Festival of Fort Bend will be a free-admission, wholesome family event for the community featuring hundreds of young participants with captivating performances showcasing over 30 of the world’s cultures. Kicking off the Festival will be an indoor and colorful pageantry, parade-style, representing a global sampling.
“It’s a way of recognizing and honoring the rich cultural diversity that exists in our Fort Bend community,” said Stafford city mayor, Leonard Scarcella. “We’re pleased to be able to serve as the host community for the fifth year as we bring together the festive sights and sounds that represent a display of our many peoples. We’ll get to see so much of our local talent at our state-of-the-art Stafford Centre convention facilities, where we first hosted the unique, one of a kind event and we are proud to continue to be the prime mover and supporter that makes this event possible,” said Mayor Scarcella.
The event will offer the sale of ethnic foods, creative crafts, and artful memorabilia. Families will also be able to sample delicious ethnic foods at the multi-cultural festival highlighting dance, music and the fine arts performances on stage. There will also be free exhibits and children’s activities…”all of this under one roof and it could turn out to be as exciting as Gangnam style, but it will be Fort Bend style,” said the International Festival of Fort Bend President Nazy Khadivian referring to the Korean catchy song and dance that went viral about fashion and lifestyle.
“This local International Festival in Fort Bend continues to symbolize the unity and ‘connectedness’ of people of all ages, cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds,” said Khadivian, noting that the festival draws thousands of spectators to the Stafford Centre. “We invite residents to participate and join in the fun, making this year’s festival even more joyful than the last one.”
Khadivian welcomes volunteers and others interested in supporting this Festival, including sponsors. Participation by vendors is still open and there are still some spots open for performers. Interested persons are asked to call 832-746-2098 about being a part of this outstanding Festival.
In addition to the City of Stafford, major co-sponsors continuing their support are Sugar Creek Baptist Church, City of Missouri City, the First Colony Community Association, Bel Furniture, Danny Nguyen Commercial, and the Houston Community College.
