Sienna Branch Library to show classic movie for Black History Month

In recognition of Black History Month, Fort Bend County Libraries’ Sienna Branch Library will show an award-winning classic film on Saturday, February 23, beginning at

2:00 pm, in the Large Meeting Room of the library, located at 8411 Sienna Springs Blvd in Missouri City.

Enjoy a 1962 screen adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee. The movie features a stunning performance by Academy Award-winner Gregory Peck.

Set in Maycomb, Alabama, during the Depression, the story is told through the eyes of 8-year-old Scout Finch. Scout’s father, Atticus, is the attorney assigned to defend a shy black man named Tom Robinson, who has been falsely accused of a serious crime. The town conscience experiences intense self-scrutiny and each individual – young and old – must re-examine his/her own concept of right and wrong. Scout, along with her brother Jem and their friend Dill, learns what it means to be a true hero. This film is not rated.

The movie is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call the branch library at 281-238-2900 or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
