Lauren takes Pierre for a stroll every afternoon.

It is time again for the Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show & Rodeo.  Katy ISD has one of the few remaining high school livestock show and rodeos in the state according to officials.

Pierre, the 225-pound pig, raised by Lauren Jones of Katy Taylor High School takes center stage with Lauren as the stock show begins.

Lauren has raised Pierre since he was five weeks old and weighed 50 pounds. Every day for the last five months Lauren starts her morning about 5:30 catching a bus to the AG barn to tend to Pierre’s needs.  Each afternoon, she and Pierre take a stroll, around her job at the Firethorne Visitor’s Center.

Lauren uses the monies she earns as a Firethorne Visitor’s Center Guide to finance her FFA pig efforts, hoping that the sale of Pierre in the show auction will finance her college education. Wayne Meyer, who heads up the Firethorne Stampede auction buyer group, said, “It’s solid students like her (Lauren) who inspire us year after year to support the Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Auction and support college scholarships.”

“Firethorne Stampede” has invested more than $230,000 in Katy ISD students’ college scholarships over the past seven years.

Lauren will be showing Pierre this Thursday, Feb. 21 at the L.D. Robinson Pavilion, 6301 S. Stadium Lane at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy. Take a trip back in time and attend the Katy ISD FFA stock show and rodeo, this show is all about the kids.
