Spring-Break movies for school-aged kids
Have a Spring-Break Movie Break at Fort Bend County Libraries’ University Branch Library, 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land, on the UH campus. School-aged children in grades 1 through 5 are invited to watch a series of popular animated children’s movies that will be shown during the week in the library’s Large Meeting Room.
The series begins on Tuesday, March 12, with an award-winning animated feature starring Tom Hanks as the voice of “Woody,” a drawstring cowboy doll. Woody becomes jealous when a new spaceman action-figure named Buzz Lightyear (played by Tim Allen) arrives and takes the spotlight as the new-toy-in-town. When Woody and Buzz find themselves on their own in the outside world, they must band together to survive and find their way home. Showtime is 2:00 pm. This movie is rated G.
On Wednesday, March 13, enjoy an award-winning animated feature film about a lion prince named Simba, who is tricked by his Uncle Scar into believing that he killed his father. Ridden with guilt, Simba flees into exile and abandons his identity as the future king, leaving Scar to reign over the Pride Lands. When Simba’s childhood friend Nala discovers that he is still alive, she begs him to return to the land of his birth, reclaim his title, and restore the Pride Lands to their former glory. Showtime is 2:00 pm. This movie is rated G.
The final movie of the week will be shown on Thursday, March 14. In this animated feature film, John Goodman is the voice behind a big, blue, fuzzy monster named James P. (Sully) Sullivan, and Billy Crystal is the voice of Sully’s one-eyed, opinionated sidekick, Mike Wzowski. The two monsters are “scare specialists” whose job it is to harness the energy created when they make small children scream. This energy is bottled and used to generate the power for the city of Monstropolis. When Sully and Mike accidentally let a young girl named Boo into their world behind the closets and under the beds, their lives are thrown into chaos. Boo discovers that the monsters are really more afraid of her than she is of them.
Showtime is 2:00 pm. This movie is rated G.
The movie showings are free and open to the public. For more information, call the branch library at 281-633-5100 or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
