Abilene Christian University student wins award

Greg Jeffers from the Abilene Christian University Department of Language and Literature received an award for his paper submission to the Conference of College Teachers of English (CCTE) and the Texas College English Association, hosted on the ACU campus Feb. 21-23.

“We are thrilled with the quality of students in our English MA program, and while we’re not surprised at these accomplishments, we celebrate with them for their good work at CCTE,” says department chair and associate professor of language and literature Dr. Cole Bennett.

Jeffers, a native of Sugar Land, won The William B. Tanner Grad Student Paper award for his paper, “Glenn Beck, Jim Wallis, and the Debate on Social Justice: A Narrative Critique.”

Jeffers says, “My paper examines the media controversy in March 2010 between Glenn Beck and Jim Wallis when they attacked each other’s view of social justice. This topic interests me because of the intersection between faith, politics and rhetorical studies.”

His work  will be published in the 2013 edition of CCTE Studies, a peer-reviewed scholarly journal.
